Queen’s Brian May Uses 3D Image to Help Probe Land on Asteroid Bennu

It was reported that Brian May, guitarist of the legendary British band Queen, contributed greatly to the landing of the probe by producing a 3D image of an asteroid. The asteroid probe ‘OSIRIS-REx’, launched in 2016, solved a problem that occurred in the process of collecting samples from the asteroid ‘Bennu’.

According to a report in the British Telegraph, when the probe landed on the asteroid Bennu, a strong impact was unavoidable because the asteroid’s surface was covered with rocks, so May created a 3D stereoscopic image of the asteroid Bennu and used the Osiris- Rex was able to select a crater to land on. The sample from the asteroid beyond space that was successfully collected arrived on Earth on the 24th, shedding light on May’s activities.

Upon hearing the news of sample recovery, May said on NASA TV, “I am very proud as a member of the Osiris-Rex team. “She couldn’t be there because of Queen tour rehearsals, but her heart is always with her,” she said, happily congratulating her team.

Meanwhile, Brian May majored in physics and mathematics at Imperial College in London and completed a doctorate in astrophysics in the 1970s. However, he said that due to the rapidly rising popularity of the band Queen, he could not reach the point of obtaining a degree at the time. In 2007, 30 years later, he earned a doctorate in astrophysics and has been steadily building his career as an astrophysicist. This is why we are looking forward to another performance from Brian May, who has already reached the top of his field through music.
