Bohemian Rhapsody leads the 25th edition of the Top 2000. This concludes the list for the twentieth time with “any way the wind blows“, the closing words of the song by the British band Queen, NPO Radio 2 announced.
Only five times in the list’s existence has the song been dethroned. This year too, listeners indicated that the British hit from 1975 should be part of the year-end closing. “The top 10 consists of songs that are now as much a part of New Year’s Eve as oliebollen, champagne and fireworks,” NPO Radio 2 station manager Peter de Vries said last year.
Listeners could vote until 3 p.m. this afternoon, after which the station announced the top 10. It’s at number 2 Roller Coaster by Danny Vera, the song that also took second place last year and was number 1 in 2020. It’s at number 3 Hotel California by Eagles, a record that has also been scoring well for years.

Bohemian Rhapsody again at number 1 in the Top2000
Traditionally, the 2000 songs can be heard from Christmas Day to New Year’s Eve, at the stroke of midnight. The numbers continue to be played day and night. The Top 2000 Café in Hilversum is also open to the public 24 hours a day this year.
Due to the 25th anniversary of the list, 500 extra songs can be heard this year under the heading From Extra 500. These songs, which did not reach the Top 2000, can be heard on NPO Radio 2 from Monday 11 to Friday 15 December, as a “gift to the listeners”. During the day From Extra 500 the Top 2000 Café is not yet open.
The full list will be announced on December 15. According to channel manager De Vries, there are “plenty of surprises”.
