Queen Máxima: ‘Weird to be so far away from children now’ | NOW

Queen Máxima, who is currently making a state visit to Indonesia with King Willem-Alexander, finds it annoying to be so far away from her children in the Netherlands at the moment.

“You have your kids there and your friends, and you can see everyone getting nervous. Of course that’s bad”, said Máxima against the Dutch press on Thursday following the spread of the corona virus.

The royal couple says they follow all the rules of the RIVM. “We didn’t give the visit hands, we try to wash our hands as often as possible and not touch our faces.”

The two also supported all employees of RIVM and all other doctors and nurses in the Netherlands. “They are also confronted with something they have never been confronted with,” said Willem-Alexander. “They will be the front line against this terrible virus in the coming weeks and months.”

The coronavirus in short

  • The virus spreads mainly through cough and sneeze drops that hang in the air for a short time. Those who do not show any symptoms hardly pose a risk of infection.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. This number can decrease with good precautions.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) symptoms.
  • Almost all deaths concern older or already sick people. You can protect these people with precautionary measures.
