Danish Queen Margrethe (82) underwent major back surgery on Wednesday at Rikshospitalet in Copenhagen.
After a long period of increasing back pain, it was decided early in February that Queen Margrethe would have surgery.
On Thursday afternoon, the Danish newspaper BT writes that the operation went according to plan.
– According to the circumstances, the queen’s condition is good and stable, says a statement from the Danish royal house reproduced by BT.
It is the second time that the queen has undergone back surgery. The royal house has not elaborated on why the queen will be operated on this time, other than that the queen “has been affected by problems with her back for a long period of time” and that the situation has recently “deteriorated”.
After consultation with the National Hospital’s experts, it was therefore decided that she should be operated on.
Had to drop Norway
Now a longer rehabilitation run awaits, which means that a number of public works in the future have been canceled and postponed.
The Queen has already had to cancel her annual winter holiday in Norway. Originally, she was going to holiday in Gausdal from 7 to 13 February, a tradition that stretches back to when the princess sons were small.
Swedish King Carl Gustaf (76) also underwent a surgical procedure this week. It was a minor operation in the heart area. The operation was successful.
