Danish Queen Margrethe (82) underwent major back surgery on Wednesday at Rikshospitalet in Copenhagen.

After a long period of increasing back pain, it was decided early in February that Queen Margrethe would have surgery.

On Thursday afternoon, the Danish newspaper BT writes that the operation went according to plan.

It is the second time that the queen has undergone back surgery. Now a longer rehabilitation run awaits, which means that a number of public works in the future have been canceled and postponed.

The Queen has already had to cancel her annual winter holiday in Norway. Originally, she was going to holiday in Gausdal from 7 to 13 February, a tradition that stretches back to when the princess sons were small.

Swedish King Carl Gustaf (76) also underwent a surgical procedure this week. It was a minor operation in the heart area. The operation was successful.
