Queen Margrethe of Denmark turns 83. On that occasion, she appeared on the balcony of Amalienborg in Copenhagen on Sunday afternoon.
– Not on speaking terms
She had the entire royal family with her, including Prince Joachim (53) and his family.
According to Danish BT and several other media, this is the first time the family appears together in public since the title row last year.
– To the great surprise of many, Queen Margrethe was surrounded by her entire family on her birthday. Both sons, daughters-in-law and all eight grandchildren. It is by no means the first time this has happened. But after all the noise there has been, it was not as obvious that everyone would be quiet, says Se og Hør’s royal house expert Caroline Vagle.
Journalist to Prince Joachim: – Sorry
The Queen’s decision to strip Prince Joachim’s children of their titles created great conflict within the family, and created big headlines outside Denmark’s borders as well.
The children are now addressed as Count and Countess of Monpezat.
– Prince Joachim’s entire family have been very clear that they were disappointed with the queen when she took the titles from the prince’s children. But now it looks like they may have come to a reconciliation, and nothing is better than that, Vagle continues.
– Difficult relationship
The family reunion naturally makes headlines with our Nordic neighbors as well.
BT’s royal correspondent, Jacob Heinel Jensen, believes it is a great achievement of the queen that she succeeded in bringing the whole family together again.
– It was an absolutely necessary thing, otherwise it would have looked completely crazy.
Furthermore, Jensen emphasizes that it does not necessarily mean that the internal relationship has improved that much.
Uses new title: – Always princess
– Prince Joachim and Princess Marie (47) were also at home during the Queen’s regency jubilee at Copenhagen City Hall in November, but according to my information it is not because the relationship has improved that much. So just because they are standing together now on the balcony and smiling doesn’t mean that this crisis is completely over.
Sunday’s festivities mark the first time in five years that the Queen celebrates her birthday at Amalienborg.
It is also the first day Margrethe officially resumes her role as regent after back surgery in February.
