Queen Elizabeth is resuming duties and is already back at work

The Queen attended a ceremony to mark the farewell to Earl Peel, aka Lord Chamberlain – the royal family’s highest-ranking officer. In his position he was closely associated with the Queen, thus supporting and advising her, and he was the link between the Queen and the House of Lords.

The ceremony took place at Windsor Castle.

Earl Peel announced his departure last year, and just a week before Prince Philip’s death, Andrew Parker, a former MI5 chief, began the job.

After the death of Prince Philip, a period of national mourning was declared in the United Kingdom. This period ends on Saturday; then the funeral of the royal takes place. Until 8am Saturday, the flags on royal buildings, government buildings, armed forces and British posts abroad are at half mast.

The royal family has been in mourning for two weeks. They will continue to attend events that are appropriate and wear black mourning band where necessary.

Prince Andrew responded to the death of his father last Sunday. He said, among other things, that the death of Prince Philip left ‘an enormous void’ on his mother. “The Queen, as you might expect, is an incredibly stoic person. She described it as a huge emptiness in her life, but we, the family, those close by, are there to support her.”
