Queen Elizabeth II sends flowers and a note to the hospital where Prince Philip had surgery

On Tuesday, the United Kingdom paid tribute to the missing from the Covid-19. On this occasion, the Queen paid attention to the hospital which treated her husband earlier this month.

Royal surprise for the employees of Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital in London. On Tuesday, Queen Elizabeth II sent a bouquet of flowers along with a note to the facility where Prince Philip, 99, underwent successful heart surgery earlier this month.

This letter was sent to the hospital on the occasion of the National Day of Reflection, a British initiative to pay tribute to the dead of the coronavirus, a year after the first confinement in the United Kingdom. A minute of silence was observed across the country, the most bereaved in Europe, with 126,000 people carried away by the Covid-19.

Day of mourning

“As we look forward to a brighter future together, today we take time to reflect on the pain and loss that so many people and so many families continue to feel,” read the post from the Queen. “We pay tribute to the unquenchable dedication of those who have supported us throughout the past year.”

The Duke of Edinburgh, who will celebrate his 100th birthday in June, was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London in mid-February “as a precaution” after feeling unwell. Buckingham then specified that this hospitalization was not linked to Covid-19. An infection had been diagnosed. Two weeks later, he was transferred to Saint Bartholomew’s to undergo his heart surgery, before being reunited with King Edward VII for his convalescence. He finally left hospital services on March 16, after a one-month stay.
