The Queen of England consort Camilla has designated six of her best friends as companions to the Queen, her official companions. Together they replace the more traditional role of royal lady-in-waiting.
Camilla’s companions will join her in some important events each year. The six provide “personal support” for official visits and duties, according to Buckingham Palace. For example, they help with organization and assist where needed.
Their duties become somewhat lighter than those of the already existing court. The fiancées will be employed alongside the existing court, which will mainly assist King Charles.
According to British media, these are six longtime confidants of Camilla. They are Sarah Troughton, Jane von Westenholz, Fiona Shelburne (the Marchioness of Lansdowne), Katherine Brooke, Baroness Carlyn Chisholm and Sarah Keswick.
Some of them will make an appearance at a reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. Among others, Queen Matilde of Belgium and Queen Rania of Jordan will be present.
