Quebec launches its vaccination campaign against viruses

Since last week, seasonal vaccines against influenza and COVID-19 have been administered co-administered in certain residential and long-term care centers (CHSLD).

People at risk of complications are invited to book their appointment on the Clic Santé website or by calling 1 877 644 4545. Vaccinations will begin at local service points and community pharmacies from October 16. On this same date, the general population will also be able to make an appointment.

Current epidemiological situation

“Currently, different respiratory viruses are circulating in Quebec. The presence of COVID-19 remains high, but stable. The respiratory syncytial virus begins its fall circulation as expected. We expect the arrival of influenza in the coming weeks,” declared Dr. Boileau.

And remember that the management of COVID-19 is now done using a syndromic approach, where confirmation by a test is no longer necessary unless eligible for treatment.

To limit the spread of viruses and protect vulnerable people, health authorities recommend following simple prevention measures. This includes washing hands regularly, limiting contact if symptoms are present, and wearing a mask during social interactions if symptoms are present. In case of fever, it is advisable to stay at home.

RSV vaccination and infant protection

A vaccine against RSV will also be offered free of charge, primarily in residences welcoming the most vulnerable clients. The administration of nirsevimab, an immunizing agent against RSV, has begun for babies most at risk. In less than a week, nearly a hundred infants have already received the product. An expanded offer will begin in the coming weeks for children under 6 months and those at risk up to 18 months.
