It’s confirmed, Quebec has entered its 7th wave of COVID-19. However, it will be weaker than the previous ones, predicts Dr. Luc Boileau.
Despite the increase in COVID cases in the province, “the situation is under control for the moment, but we must remain very vigilant”, informs Minister Christian Dubé in a press briefing.
There will be no return of the compulsory mask or new population measures, however, assures Dr Boieau.
The national director of public health, however, makes recommendations to limit the spread of coronavirus infections in the province.
Dr. Boileau advises people over 60 to cover their faces in public places and enclosed spaces. He also recommends wearing a mask to Quebecers suffering from chronic illnesses and to those who are immunosuppressed.
“We have new variants, the same ones that are in Europe and are progressing here. We are clearly in a situation where there is a wave, we must take appropriate measures”, he specifies.
“Those who have not had their 2nd booster dose of the vaccine, their 4th dose, especially if it has been 5 or 6 months since they received their 3rd dose, should go get it, because their immunity is declining and the risk of having a more serious disease will increase. With the 2nd booster dose, we greatly reduce our risk of hospitalization,” informs Dr. Boileau.
Minister Christian Dubé will pick up his booster dose of the COVID vaccine this afternoon to protect himself from the virus.
The national director of public health also has an important message for Quebecers who are and will be infected with COVID.
“The virus spreads, because when someone has the virus, they don’t isolate themselves. People think that after a few days they feel better and they can go out. Nope! It’s isolation at home, the illness always lasts ten days. It is sometimes necessary to wait 3 or 4 days to have a positivity, the tests are less reliable with the new variants. In the 5 days that follow, we put on our mask, we don’t go to shows stuck to others or to restaurants, ”he says.
“The best way to fight the virus is to isolate yourself and get vaccinated,” also supports Christian Dubé.
Dr. Boileau was accompanied by the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé. The two men had not given a joint press briefing since February.
