Quebec Education Staff to Vote on New Collective Agreement with Quebec – Details and Updates

EDUCATION. The education staff of the Center de service scolaire des Chênes (CSSDC) will vote starting next week on the agreement in principle concluded with Quebec, during general meetings.

Those who are also members of the Common Front will decide whether or not they approve the salary and working conditions that are included in their next collective agreements.

The Drummondville Region Education Union will get the ball rolling on January 22. Then, it will be the turn of the Chênes unit of the Union of Professional Education Personnel of the Heart and Centre-du-Québec to decide, on January 24. The Union of Workers of the Commission scolaire des Chênes will hold its general meeting on January 31.

Workers will have the opportunity to obtain details on the agreement in principle reached with the Quebec government.

The agreement provides, among other things, several improvements to the collective agreement, in addition to salary increases: vacations, retirement plan, insurance, parental rights and other gains.

In Drummondville, more than 3,000 public sector workers are represented by one of the Common Front member unions.

Let us also remember that three distinct waves of demonstrations and strikes were called. A first day of strike was held on November 6 when workers demonstrated near their workplace, but especially along Saint-Joseph Boulevard, near the public market.

Then on November 21, 22 and 23, unionized employees demonstrated again in large numbers during the second wave of walkouts.

The third wave took place from December 8 to 14 during which workers marched through the streets of Drummondville demanding better working conditions from the government.
