As the 2023 agricultural season was characterized by climatic situations unfavorable to hay production, the Financière agricole du Québec (FAC) has just announced that it will pay nearly $21.2 million additional to 3,276 hay companies. and pastures under the Crop Insurance Program (ASREC).
For the Chaudière-Appalaches region, 609 companies share a budget of $4.5 million.
This payment considers all mowing, cutting options and causes of damage as well as the treatment of exceptional situations.
The announcement now brings the compensation paid to agricultural businesses in the sector to nearly $33 million.
The FAC reminds that crop insurance is subject to constant adaptation in order to adequately meet the needs of farmers in relation to climate change and the evolution of agricultural practices.
