Quarto Grado: The Case of Giulia Cecchettin and the Signs of Psychological Stalking

The last episode of Quarto Grado, the program that deals with news and investigation cases, opened, once again, with the case of Giulia Cecchettin. The killer of the 22-year-old is in prison, the investigations are continuing and the victim’s father, Gino, declared that he had left his job and was thinking about a new “civic commitment”. Guest of Gianluigi Nuzzi, Gabriella Marano, consultant to the family of the young woman found dead in a gully, revealed the relationship between the two ex-boyfriends. “You insist on this psychological stalking. Why are you targeting this type of crime and aggravating circumstance”, the journalist asked directly. The psychologist responded like this: “Because it exists. We identified that Giulia was the victim of torture, of a psychological siege. Persecutory acts which took the form of harassment, abuse, a tendency towards isolation, messages, phone calls, stalking”.

Then Marano shed light on the last period: “Lately Filippo also had a certain aggressive attitude”. Reporting live a story from a friend of Giulia’s, he continued: “He tells us that luckily they were in a crowded place, but Giulia was really afraid of him.” “Physical fear?” asked the host. “Yes,” the psychologist replied clearly. It also appears that Turetta went to a psychologist several times. Was it possible that no one had noticed anything? “The expert picks up the signals, but we need to understand what Filippo had said. The expert picks up the signs and they were identifiable”, explained the Cecchettin family consultant. “A new awareness must be born. If we don’t see kicks and punches we shouldn’t think that we are out of danger”, she concluded.
