Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari qualified for the Swiss Open quarter-finals after a dramatic win over Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Boje, 25-23, 21-19.
The Rinov/Pitha vs Christiansen/Boje duel was tough from the first game. The two doubles took turns leading each other until the position was 18-18.
At 18-18, Rinov/Pitha managed to score points in a fierce rally. Pitha’s blow, which the opponent couldn’t return, made them lead 19-18.
Rinov/Pitha then won a game point at 20-19 after Christiansen smashed hard off the field. However, this first game point failed to be utilized properly by Rinov/Pitha.
The next three game points won by Rinov/Pitha were also thwarted by Christiansen/Boje. The score was even up to 23-23.
It was only on the occasion of the fifth match point that Rinov/Pitha succeeded in closing the first game. Smes Christiansen who hit the net led Rinov/Pitha to win 25-23.
Entering the second game, Rinov/Pitha were able to win 4-1 at the start. But after that Christiansen/Boje were able to equalize at 6-6.
However, after that Rinov/Pitha appeared more solid and grabbed five consecutive points which put them 11-6 up at the interval.
After the interval, Christiansen/Boje were able to get up and managed to equalize at 13-13. They even had time to turn around to lead 14-13 until finally Rinov / Pitha were able to restore the lead at 15-14.
Smes Christiansen who hit the net then added to the advantage for Rinov / Pitha, 16-14. The two-point advantage was maintained by Rinov/Pitha until the score was 17-15.
But Christiansen/Boje put up another tough fight and grabbed three straight points to take a 18-17 lead.
After taking a break, Rinov/Pitha were able to win two consecutive points and regained their lead at 19-18. Pitha’s neat placement then made Rinov/Pitha win a match point at 20-18.
After failing at the first opportunity, Rinov/Pitha’s attack broke through Christiansen/Boje’s defense at the second opportunity. Rinov/Pitha won 21-19.
