Quarter million painting found in trash can at German airport

A businessman can breathe a sigh of relief because his work of art lost in Germany has been found in a paper container. He had forgotten the painting worth 280,000 euros at the check-in desk at an airport in Düsseldorf.

The artwork of the surrealist painter Yves Tanguy was packed in cardboard. The owner didn’t think about it until after he boarded his flight to Israel. On arrival in Tel Aviv, the man contacted the German police, but the painting appeared to have disappeared.

Help from cousin

The authorities were unable to locate the lost item until the businessman’s cousin took action. He had traveled from Belgium to Düsseldorf with more information about the artwork.

After talking to the cousin, the police decided to contact the airport cleaning company. The paper bins were searched and at the bottom of one of the containers was the valuable painting. The cousin received the artwork on behalf of the businessman. The identity of the owner has not been disclosed.
