Fabio Quartararo did not win MotoGP Doha easily. He was scattered after the start, but thanks to a mature strategy he managed to become a champion.
Fabio Quartararo emerged victorious MotoGP Doha, Monday (5/4/2021) early morning WIB. He beat two Pramac Ducati riders, Johann Zarco and Jorge Martin.
The races didn’t start well enough by Quartararo. The French racer had dropped to seventh position after the start and even slipped to ninth position in the 4-5 round.
But Quartararo understands that long races and tire management will be very important. He decided not to be too insistent until the first half of the race, then tried to push in the second half.
The plan was executed well. He calmly but steadily moved up position after position, starting from winning seventh on lap 12, then to fifth on lap 13-14, to finally leading the race on lap 18.
One thing is interesting, Quartararo got the signal to attack after seeing his teammate, Maverick Vinales start poking. From there on the fourth victory in his career MotoGP obtained.
“It’s easy to say, I haven’t won so many races, but this one is a special win. It feels like I started from eight, or seven (after starting), and I saw the speed on the track was not that different from the warm-up session,” Fabio Quartararo after the race.
“I decided to really save the tires for the final stages. And to be honest when I saw Maverick pressing, I realized that this was the moment to attack and start overtaking,” added the 21-year-old rider.
