While only 0.7% of the 100,000 people who entered Thailand recently were infected with Covid-19, the foreign ministry assured the population that it will maintain strict health measures for much of next year. .
The director of the information department and spokesperson for the foreign ministry, Thani Saengrat, said that since entry into the kingdom was restricted on April 4, the ministry and relevant agencies have repatriated 140,429 Thais from 145 countries, including 5,630 returned home in the past week alone.
Of this total, 29,693 arrived by land, 108,649 by air and 2,087 by sea.
In total, 993 people have been infected with Covid-19 after traveling from 67 different countries, a rate of 0.7%.
For January 2021, another 33,269 people have expressed a desire to return home.
The ministry provided entry documents to 51,424 foreigners, of which 16,231 were added last week.
A total of 52,359 document records were registered in the ministry’s central online system, of which 33,273 were for Thai nationals and 19,086 for foreigners.
The spokesperson confirmed the availability of quarantine sites for Thais and foreigners, noting that 27 sites have been prepared for Thais, 121 Alternative State Quarantines (ASQs) are available and 46 local quarantine sites and 128 medical quarantine sites have been prepared.
He explained that an increase in entry requests was due to many countries relaxing their travel restrictions, but assured Thais that strict sanitary measures are maintained for entry into the Kingdom.
