Quarantine echoes of the Patriarch in autumn. The Autumn / Day of the Patriarch festival begins

“This year ‘s Patriarch autumn the main emphasis is on greater involvement of students in both the organization and evaluation of festival events, in order to create more celebration than the sense of competition that had appeared in previous years, “in a conversation with the newspaper Day says festival director Kristine Freiberga. This jury of five people studying at the Latvian Academy of Culture, the Latvian Academy of Arts and the Latvian Academy of Music will not look for one of the best performances, but will try to highlight the valuable and successful in each of the festival events.

Patriarch autumn draws attention to the fact that this year the festival is positioned as a festival of performing and audiovisual arts (previously only a performing arts event – I. A.), which highlights audiovisual art not only in its title but also in its program. During that time, it will be possible to watch seven short documentaries Quarantine diaries (directors Emīls Alps, Helmuts Bondars, Monta Bubuce, Anete Dance, Rūdolfs Deinats, Jāzeps Podnieks, Rūta Znotina), created reflecting on the time in the spring of 2020. An interdisciplinary project created by Matīsa Kaža will also be offered Cinema and we, in which Andris Keišs, Jānis Skutelis and Egons Dombrovskis participate. This program will be supplemented by the 3rd year of the LAC Dramatic Theater Actor’s Art Course or the New Riga Theater Course led by Viļa Daudiņš Latvian stories 2020, which depicts portraits of its generation of contemporaries in the format of video stories.

Returning to the performing arts, it should be noted that this year Patriarch in the fall as many as three productions will have their premieres, which is a long-standing event. Among them is the performance of the Honorary Professor of the LCA David Giovanzana together with the students of contemporary dance. Fun Violence, dramatic theater actor’s 4th year diploma thesis production Waiting for Godo and the diploma thesis of Linards Āboltiņš, a future master’s graduate Blood brothers. A total of twelve productions will be shown, followed by audience and expert discussions with the show’s creative teams. Lectures, international guest performances and associations of young artists will also be offered 4K exhibition Special needs who talks about a woman in Latvian theater, paying attention to the roles of gender and the topicality of related stereotypes.
