Qualifier Altmaier to fourth round Roland Garros without loss of set | NOW

Daniel Altmaier has again provided a surprise at Roland Garros on Saturday. The German qualifier was too strong for Manuel Berrettini, number eight on the placement list, 6-2, 7-6 (5) and 6-4.

The 22-year-old Altmaier is still without a set loss on his Grand Slam debut. Previously, he was too strong in Paris for veteran Feliciano López and fellow countryman Jan-Lennard Struff. In qualifying he sent Tallon Griekspoor home, among others.

Altmaier managed to beat a top ten player for the first time against Berrettini. For a place in the quarterfinals, the German plays against Pablo Carreño Busta. The Spaniard was too strong for fellow countryman Roberto Bautista Agut on Saturday with 6-4, 6-3, 5-7 and 6-4.

Sofia Kenin had little to fear from the Irina Maria Bara in her third round match in the women’s tournament. It became 6-2 and 6-0 for the American. The Romanian took the first two games, but then Kenin won twelve in a row.

Kenin, who won the Australian Open earlier this year, has been seeded sixth in Paris. She plays in the fourth round against the winner of the match between Fiona Ferro and Patricia Tig.

In the women’s doubles tournament, Arantxa Rus was eliminated in the second round. Together with the Czech Marie Bouzkova, she lost 7-5 and 6-1 against Su Wei Hsieh from Taiwan and Barbora Strýcová from the Czech Republic.

In singles, Rus was already killed in the first round this week.
