Child day care is an important pillar in early childhood education as a family-oriented and flexible form of care. For children under three years of age, child day care offers education, upbringing and care in small groups with a constant caregiver. Care in small, age-homogeneous groups with stable caregivers meets the developmental psychological needs of small children and supports families in balancing family and work due to the flexible care times.
The qualification to become a childminder is based on the “Competency-Oriented Qualification Manual for Childminders” (QHB) with a total of 300 teaching units and takes around 1.5 years. The qualification takes place in preparation for the job and during the job.
After successfully completing the preparatory course (160 teaching units) and obtaining a care permit, it is possible to look after children. The qualification is offered by the Office for Youth and Family in cooperation with the Schwalm-Eder adult education center. The costs for the qualification are borne by the Schwalm-Eder district.
The next qualification course for childminders begins in September 2025. The application process and the acquisition of participants have already begun.
