Malang Posco Media, Jakarta – The latest 5G cellular modem from Qualcomm has the potential to be limited to Apple’s smartphones this year, namely the iPhone 16 series.
Technology analyst Jeff Pu revealed that the cellular modem in question is the Snapdragon X75 and will only be available on the Pro model.

In the Macrumors report, Sunday (14/1), this news was conveyed by Jeff Pu in a report with the Haitong International Investment Company.
Jeff further believes that the iPhone 16 Pro model will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 modem.
However, for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus versions, it is likely to retain the Snapdragon X70 modem, the same modem found in all iPhone 15 models.
Modem differentiation between the standard and Pro models would be a change in strategy for Apple.
Announced in February 2023, the Snapdragon X75 brings improved carrier aggregation and other technology advances for faster 5G download and upload speeds compared to the X70.
The modem’s combined mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G transceivers take up 25 percent less circuit board space, and use up to 20 percent less power than its predecessor.
Snapdragon X75 also supports the latest “5G Advanced” standard, which is described as the next phase of 5G and part of the evolution towards 6G.
5G Advanced will include enhanced artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve 5G performance, and will also expand 5G to additional device types and use cases.
Apple will likely advertise 5G Advanced support on the iPhone 16 Pro models, as it did with the LTE Advanced feature on the iPhone 6s when it launched in 2015.
Apple has reportedly been working on its own 5G modem for the iPhone since 2018, but the project has reportedly faced development challenges, and the modem is not expected to be announced until 2025 or later if it materializes.
Meanwhile, Apple extended its 5G modem agreement with Qualcomm until 2026. It is estimated that the iPhone 16 lineup will launch in September 2024. (ntr/ask)
