Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Zen 4 vs. A18 Pro Benchmark Leak: Galaxy S24 vs. iPhone 16 Performance Comparison

Enlarge Image Benchmark scores for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Zen 4, which is expected to be installed in the Galaxy S24, and the A18 Pro chipset, which is expected to be installed in the iPhone 16, have been leaked. Since it has not been released yet, there is no need to take the benchmark score directly, but it can be used to infer the performance of the two smartphones next year. Photo = Each company The Galaxy S24 equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (3rd generation) has just begun to be sold, but benchmark results for Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which will be released next year, have already been leaked online, sparking controversy. am. Subsequently, the benchmark results of the A18 Pro, which will be installed in the Apple iPhone 16, were leaked, leading to a mock match between the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the iPhone 16 Pro.

On the 28th of last month (January), the CPU benchmark results of Snapdragon 8 Zen 4’s benchmark tool ‘Geekbench 6’ were released. Data released by an overseas tipster using the ID ‘@negativeonehero’ showed a single-core score of 2845 and a multi-core score of 10,628. In the case of multi-core, the Galaxy S24 Ultra equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 recorded 7249 points, so the 4th generation chipset is about 46% faster in a multi-threaded environment.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Zen 4, like MediaTek Dimension City, appears to have significantly improved multi-core performance by eliminating the little core and configuring only the big core and middle core. In addition, it is known that the performance ratio is quite excellent as it is produced using TSMC’s 3nm process. This score is similar to Apple’s latest M3 chipset multi-core score of 10,762, which appears to have achieved remarkable performance for a mobile AP.

Meanwhile, on the 30th, the same person (@negativeonehero) added Geekbench 6 benchmark information for the A18 Pro, which will be installed on the Apple iPhone 16, to X. According to the post, the A18 Pro’s single core score was 3500 points and multi-core score was 8200 points.

Considering that the benchmark score of the current AP, A17 Pro, is 2,900 points for single core and 7,200 points for multi-core, the single-core score has improved by about 20% and the multi-core score has improved by about 10%, but the single-core score of 3,500 points is considered quite encouraging. .

Currently, the CPUs of smartphones and PCs are equipped with multiple brains (cores) that perform calculations, but single core literally means working using only one brain (core). It operates as a single core for tasks that do not require a lot of computation, such as writing documents, searching the Internet, checking email, and listening to music. Therefore, the single core score, which is mainly used in daily life, is 3500 points because it is expected to provide stable performance, low heat generation, and long-lasting battery performance.

Conversely, the multi-core score in situations where high-performance tasks must be performed using two or more cores is considered somewhat disappointing. This is because the latest games enjoyed by many users require a significant amount of physical calculations, so 8200 points are lower than competitors for purposes such as gaming, multitasking, and 3D graphics work. Considering that Apple recently made triple-A console masterpieces such as ‘Assassin’s Creed Mirage’, ‘Death Stranding’, and ‘Resident Evil RE: 4’ playable on Apple devices, the importance of multi-core scores cannot be emphasized enough. There is no shortage.

Of course, the currently leaked Geekbench 6 benchmark results of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Zen 4 and A18 Pro are not the final results. Scores may change significantly at launch. However, considering Qualcomm’s currently well-received Snapdragon 8 Zen 3, it is expected that Zen 4 will also be released satisfactorily. Now, the impact of the expression ‘iPhone of performance’ seems to be slowly decreasing.
