Jakarta, Selular.ID – After introducing the latest series of smartphone chipsets, namely Snapdragon 8 Gen1, Qualcomm is now preparing chipsets for laptop devices. Named Snapdragon 8cx Gen3, it is the first 5nm chipset for Windows-on-ARM laptops.
Yes, besides smartphone chips, Qualcomm is now working on chips for other platforms, starting with making devices for laptops with Windows OS. It is said, this chip will equip superior devices because it has 5G connectivity on laptops.
Quote from GSMArena, Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 will come with a high-end offering. Until now, Qualcomm has hidden details about this hardware, so until now there has been no real news about this chipset.
Because until now that Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is the world’s first 5 nm chipset for Windows devices, if you look at the previous series this chipset can only be used for Chrome OS. As for the 8cx Gen 2 has 7 nm.
The advantage of the nanometer capacity is getting smaller, so nanometer (NM) is a unit of measure for the processor. The smaller the size, the more efficient the performance of the processor. So, the smaller the nanometer size on the processor will obviously provide better efficiency as well.
Qualcomm also adds that the new chip has a massive 85% increase in multi-core performance compared to its predecessor, along with a 60% increase in GPU performance. Therefore, the performance of the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is three times that of the previous chip.
Some of the advancements from the 8cx Gen 3 include the existence of a sophisticated modem. Qualcomm will offer laptop OEMs a few configurations when it comes to 5G with the X65 modem that can provide downlink speeds of up to 10 Gbps, the older X55 is the middle option going up to 7.5 Gbps, then there’s the X62 at 4.4 Gbps. Local connectivity includes the latest Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E.
Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 is claimed by Qualcomm that laptops using this chipset can be used without a fan. But the strange expression from Qualcomm about multi-day battery life, whereas laptop battery life depends on the lifetime of each laptop.
