Qualcomm Gets US Clearance to Sell 4G Chips to Huawei | NOW

Chip manufacturer Qualcomm may again sell 4G chips to Huawei from the United States, reports Reuters. These include 4G products for mobile devices, which are now exempt from US trade restrictions imposed amid mounting tensions with China.

Qualcomm and all other US semiconductor companies were forced to stop selling chips to the Chinese technology company in September after US trade restrictions took effect.

Analyst Stacy Rasgon leaves on Reuters know that the Qualcomm license would have a “limited impact” as it only covers 4G chips as consumers switch to newer 5G devices. It is still unclear whether the US will also license Qualcomm for 5G smartphone chips

The trade ban has been in force for more than a year and was instituted because the US suspects Huawei of spying for the Chinese government. Although this has not been proven, the Trump administration has decided to impose a trade ban on Huawei. Huawei has always denied this.
