Qualcomm embeds WiFi 7 in Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, how fast is it?

Krjogja.com – JAKARTA – At the Snapdragon Summit 2022 event, Qualcomm announced the presence of a chipset for premium devices called Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 itself is expected to be a new standard chipset with the most advanced AI (artificial intelligence) technology on today’s mobile devices.

The plan calls for Qualcomm’s new chipset to be adopted by OEM vendors for their Android phones starting in 2023.

Of all the technologies integrated into the new chipset, Qualcomm also includes WiFi 7 technology.

Information, Qualcomm first announced a chipset supporting WiFi 7 networks for enterprise-class access points, home routers, advanced mesh systems,

Now, the company is including WiFi 7 technology in consumer products like Android phones. What is the reason Qualcomm does this?

“Since its introduction in 2017, many parts have embraced WiFi 6,” said Dominikus Susanto, Senior Manager Business Development at Qualcomm Indonesia, when meeting in Hawaii, US, at the 2022 Snapdragon Summit.

He added, “Therefore, the transition to WiFi 7 is quite reasonable in terms of development timeline across WiFi generations.”

According to the IDC report, currently 2 billion devices with WiFi 6 technology have been shipped

globally and is expected to reach 5.2 billion devices by the end of 2025.

The explosion in the number of devices is due to the development of WiFi technology in line with the growing needs.

“Building on the WiFi 6 innovation, WiFi 7 was ‘born’ and was created to maximize the spectrum used by the WiFi 6E network,” Sutanto explained.

FYI, WiFi 7 is claimed to be capable of providing a maximum speed of up to 5.8Gbps when using the 6GHz spectrum and 4.3Gbps on the 5GHz spectrum, capable of replacing a wired connection.

In addition to being fast, the WiFi 7 network technology itself also has a low latency of up to 2ms and already uses new technologies such as Link and Enhanced MU-MIMO.
