Quadruple premiere in Bietigheim’s win against Augsburg – SWR Sport

The Bietigheim Steelers celebrated an important victory, three points and four premieres on Friday evening. They also benefit from the defeat of the Schwenninger Wild Wings.

This puck should have a place of honor on René Schoofs’ shelf. After more than 1,000 competitive games for the Bietigheim Steelers – most of them in the second division – the 36-year-old scored his first DEL goal in a 4-0 win against the Augsburg Panthers. “At that moment I was totally flabbergasted and was really happy,” he said at Magentasport.

With his goal, Schoofs benefited from the assists from Robert Kneisler and Guillaume Naud – for the 20-year-old junior player and the 29-year-old son of head coach Danny Naud it was also the first DEL points. “I won’t forget the guys I experienced that with. Maybe I’ll have another one afterwards – but it’ll go on again on Sunday.”

Steelers back in the race

But until the duel against the Krefeld Penguins, the Steelers can celebrate a little. Bietigheim is still bottom of the DEL table with 25 points or one point per game. But with a win against a direct competitor in the fight against relegation – hits from CJ Stretch (3rd), René Schoofs (27th), Jalen Smereck (30th) and Matt McKnight (58th) – the Steelers are back in after difficult weeks Stroke distance.

The fourth premiere brought the “zu 0”. Because for goalkeeper Sami Aittokallio it was the first shutout in the jersey of the Bietigheim Steelers. “Sami did an amazing job,” said Schoofs happily.

Wild Wings lose against the front runner

The Steelers benefit from the defeat of the Schwenninger Wild Wings. The bottom of the table (28 points / 1.12 points per game) lost their away game at leaders EHC Munich 2: 4. Travis Turnbull (7th) and Daniel Pfaffengut (13th) were able to equalize the goals of Trevor Parkes (6th) and Maximilian Kastner (13th) by return mail. But Patrick Hager (24th & 33rd) shot the Munich team to victory in their second game in two days.
