The ‘Quadrantids’ meteor shower is one of the most anticipated astronomical events of 2022 by sky aficionados. The first event of the year will be visible to the naked eye and can be observed in Mato Grosso do Sul until January 4th.
The date will be an excellent opportunity to observe a show of shooting stars in the sky, as the weather forecast indicates favorable conditions. Also, the moon illumination will be at 0%, making it easier to see.
This meteor shower can produce up to 120 meteors per hour, but this only occurs on ‘spikes’ and the average is that you can see around 40 per hour.
According to the International Meteor Organization, the exact time of maximum rain activity will be 20:40 GMT, that is, 16:40 MS time. However, the peak should last at least 4 hours, so as soon as the sun sets it will be possible to follow the phenomenon.
Meteor
Meteor, popularly called shooting star, is a phenomenon that is characterized by the passage of a meteoroid through the Earth’s atmosphere. Meteoroids, in turn, are fragments of comets or asteroids, which detach from these celestial bodies and wander through space in orbits around the Sun.
