The QR code turns out to be a solution for many catering entrepreneurs the staff shortage to catch. With the unique code of white and black cubes on the table, less staff is needed to take orders and bring bills. Companies that make the QR ordering apps are busy with it.
“Due to the staff shortage, many catering entrepreneurs are faced with the choice of closing the business for a few days or using the QR code. Not being able to find staff is currently one of the most frequently heard arguments for using the digital ordering app,” says Gerard Brouwer, director of the Scanfie ordering app. Two thirds of its customers have been using the app since corona.
‘People are no longer running away’
When the catering establishments and shops were allowed to open again during corona, the QR code was used to register visitors. Now the code is also often scanned in cafes and restaurants to see the menu, order food and pay the bill. Many catering businesses see practical advantages in this.
“We have a large terrace with entrances from three sides. So we need a lot of staff, which is difficult to get at the moment,” says Teuntje Veenstra, manager of restaurant Van Aken in Den Bosch. “Our guests can order from the menu via the QR code without anyone having to come to them, which saves us a lot of personnel costs. Also, no people walk away from the terrace without paying, because they can do this quickly via the code. can do.”
Veenstra expects to save four to five personnel on a busy day by using the codes.
