Overtime was needed on Sunday in Game 2 of the two QMJHL semi-finals.
In Quebec in front of 17,911 spectators, a new record for a playoff game in the QMJHL, the Remparts defeated the Gatineau Olympiques 4-3. It was Kassim Gaudet’s goal that ended a very thrilling match. He completed a game prepared by Nathan Gauthier.
There was only one goal in the first period, that of Cam MacDonald which gave the Olympiques a 1-0 priority. This is the first time in series appearances that the Remparts have trailed on the scoreboard.
Justin Robidas tied the game midway through the second period. A few minutes later, he set up Jérémy Langlois’ goal on the penalty kill. Then, with less than a second on the board, Nathan Gaucher scored a very big goal doubling the Remparts’ lead. Two goals from Riley Kidney in the third period sent both clubs into overtime.
Both goalkeepers shone. Francesco Lapenna stopped 43 shots and William Rousseau, 39.
