The donation includes approximately four hundred thirty-one thousand boxes of medicines (431,308) for eleven (11) chronic disease medicines most in need, according to the provisions of the Ministry of Public Health.
The equivalent of seventy percent of these medicines will be provided to the Ministry of Public Health for free distribution to patients through primary health care centers scattered throughout various Lebanese regions, provided that thirty percent of the remaining amount is provided to the Ministry of the Interior and Municipalities for distribution to the pharmacies of the Internal Security Forces.
In a speech by the White minister, he noted that this donation “constitutes a continuation of Qatar’s continued and grateful support to Lebanon, especially to projects related to the hospital sector, including support for government hospitals through a diesel donation in excess of five million dollars, which has allowed these hospitals to continue to provide services in the current difficult period.” As well as supporting Karantina Hospital through the direction of the new construction project adjacent to the hospital worth approximately twenty million dollars, and other support for other hospitals.
He also highlighted “the many important programs offered by the Qatar Red Crescent in Lebanon to help Lebanese and IDPs, the most important of which was the recent fruitful cooperation to provide safe drinking water in Arsal for Lebanese and IDPs, such as as well as the supply of this safe water to other places in Lebanon”.
The Public Health Minister said, “The important thing about this support is that it is being provided without any requests. Rather, the Qatari brothers say what they are providing is part of their moral duty to the Lebanese.”
The white minister expressed his sincere thanks, adding that “those who do not thank the people do not thank God”, hoping that “the situation in Lebanon will improve”.
In turn, Al-Sousi noted that “the constructive cooperation that the Qatar Red Crescent receives from the Ministry of Public Health constitutes a reason to continue and present more projects with the support and blessing of the Qatari Embassy in Beirut.”
Regarding the donation of medicines, Al-Sousi thanked Qatar Charity, which provided the funding, and the WMCA organization, which takes on the task of distributing medicines to dispensaries within a protocol signed with the Ministry of Public Health. He announced that “the drug project is included in the Red Crescent plan for the year 2023, and this donation is part of it because the project will continue.”
He said, “We will do everything possible for Lebanon to recover and help its people and all residents on its land, and this will be strengthened during the coming year.”
