Tameen Mansour (7′) put the Asian team – participating by invitation – ahead, but the goal by former Boavista player Alberth Elis (90’+6) spoiled the party, leaving the Qataris forced to beat Mexico in the last round to have chances of advancing to the rooms. And it still might not arrive! Despite the disappointment, Carlos Queiroz praised the team. “We showed that when necessary we know how to fight. We had a great attitude and we deserved a better final. We suffered in added time, as in the first game, we have to grow, we are not used to this intensity”, he left, criticizing the arbitration: “The games have VAR? You’re kidding! With four penalties in two games… it’s impossible.”

In the other game, Mexico beat Haiti (3-1) and is the first team to guarantee access to the quarters. The Aztecs, who passed the group stage in the 17 editions in which they participated, lead with 6 points. Haiti is 2nd (3 points) ahead of Qatar and Honduras, which add 1 point each.
