Qatari Team Clinches Gold Medal at Asian Games Beach Volleyball Competition

The Qatari team, consisting of Sherif Yunus Samba and Ahmed Tejan Janko, defeated the Chinese team Wu Jiaxin and Motaylbio Abuduhalikijiang 22-20 and 21-16, on the fifth day of the games.

The Qatari team won its first gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, after retaining the title of the beach volleyball competition on Thursday.

Qatar added its gold to a silver and two bronze in skeet shooting.

The Qatari team, consisting of Sherif Yunus Samba and Ahmed Tejan Janko, defeated the Chinese team Wu Jiaxin and Mutaylbio Abuduhalikijiang 22-20 and 21-16, on the fifth day of the games. Mohammed Salem Al-Kuwari, head of the beach plane mission, told Agence France-Presse, “The youth lived up to their expectations and played a great match, which also ended 2-0, like all their matches in the tournament.”

He continued, “The Chinese competitor was very strong, especially since he was playing on his home soil and among his fans, and we will meet him again in Mexico because he is in the same group with us in the World Cup. We are very proud of this achievement in the Volleyball Association, especially since it is the first gold medal for Qatar in the tournament.”

Qatari team director Mohammed Anbar said, “Our goal was to finish among the top three and then win gold. This is our motivation for the World Cup scheduled for Mexico in two weeks.”
