Qatari sheik makes official bid for Manchester United: “Restore old glory” | Premier League

Manchester United has been on sale for some time now. The love between the American Glazer family and the club and its fans was never very close, so any serious offer would certainly be considered.

And seriously, Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani’s bid sure is. Al Thani is the son of the emir, say the boss, of Qatar. He was previously able to express his love for football with his Aspire Academy, which until recently was also the main sponsor of Eupen.

But now Sheikh Jassim wants to shift up a gear. “The sheikh confirms today that he has made an offer to take 100% ownership of Manchester United,” the statement read.

“The intention is to return the club to its former glory, both on and off the field. More importantly, the fans will be back at the heart of Manchester United,” we can read as a subtle reference to the difficult relationship of the Glazers with the fans.

Furthermore, the sheikh – through his Nine Two Foundation – promises to invest in the team, the training center, the stadium and the fan experience.

“Manchester United must be a symbol of excellence in football and as the greatest football club in the world.”

Manchester United itself has not yet responded to Sheikh Jassim’s statement.
