Qatar Works Hard to Open Humanitarian Corridor to Afghanistan

ACCEPTANCEQatar worked hard to facilitate the opening of humanitarian corridors for aid to Afghanistan.

The statement was made by a Qatari Foreign Ministry official on Friday (3/9).

“Qatar is engaging with the Taliban to ensure a peaceful transition of power to an inclusive and effective government,” said Qatar’s Special Envoy Mutlaq bin Majed Al-Qahtani.

“Al-Qahtani arrived in Kabul on Friday (3/9) to hold talks on forming an inclusive Afghan government and reopening Kabul airport,” said a Qatari source with knowledge of the visit.

The Gulf state has emerged as the main interlocutor with the Taliban, having hosted the Taliban group’s political office since 2013.

The Taliban are negotiating a US military withdrawal and separate talks with the Afghan government in Qatar.
