Qatar has signed an agreement on multi-year supplies of LNG to Germany

Today, November 29, the state-owned company of Qatar Qatar Energy signed in Doha an agreement for the multi-year supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Germany. Within its framework, the American company ConocoPhillips will start supplying LNG from 2026 through a terminal in northern Germany, near the city of Brunsbüttel. The terminal is currently under construction. The annual volume of LNG supplies is approximately 2 million tons. The gas will come from Qatar’s two largest fields, North Field East and North Field South, jointly operated by Qatar Energy and ConocoPhillips. The agreement is for 15 years.

Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said that “Germany is the largest gas importer in Europe with a high demand for this type of fuel in sectors such as industry, energy and residential sector. We are happy to contribute to the energy security of Germany and Europe as a whole.” ConocoPhillips CEO Ryan Lance added that “ConocoPhillips and Qatar Energy are delighted to be able to provide a secure and stable supply of LNG to the entire global market from our projects in Qatar.”

This is the second major deal on multi-year LNG supplies from Qatar, signed in recent days. On November 21, Qatar Energy entered into a 27-year LNG supply agreement with China’s Sinopec, the longest LNG supply deal in history. Under the terms of the agreement, Qatar Energy will supply China with 4 million tonnes of LNG annually during this period. Business volume valued into 60 billion dollars
