DOHA, July 9, 2023 (Xinhua) – Qatar Tourism Authority announced today (Sunday), in partnership with ((Spacetoon)), the holding of the “Qatar Games Festival”, the first of its kind in the country and the largest event in the region, with the participation of more than 25 of the leading brands in the world. The authority said in a statement, a copy of which was received by Xinhua News Agency, that the festival will be held from July 13 to August 5 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center in the Qatari capital, under the slogan “Live Stories and Enjoy Games.”
The festival comes as part of the activities of the “Summer in Qatar” campaign launched by Qatar Tourism, which includes various activities and activities, according to the statement.
25 major brands are participating in the festival, including Barbie, Blippy, Blowy, Cocomelon, Disney, Happy Cappy, Marvel, Fortnite and Transformers.
Throughout the 25 days of the festival, children and families will have the opportunity to meet a group of their favorite characters, participate in interactive areas such as the “Barbie Dream House” and the life-size “Monopoly” board, as well as purchase the latest games from leading brands.
The statement quoted Sheikha Hessa Al-Thani, Head of Marketing and Planning at Qatar Tourism, as saying, “We are pleased to cooperate with one of the most famous satellite channels in the region in order to provide a world of fun for families this summer.”
Sheikha Hessa added that the “Summer in Qatar” campaign program was designed to bring unprecedented activities that give families and children the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable summer atmosphere inside the country.
She stated that Qatar Tourism, since the launch of its global campaign “Qatar is more than a feeling” late last year, has achieved great success in developing a diverse and fun-filled calendar throughout the year and during all occasions.
The Qatar Games Festival offers four distinct areas known as “islands” that satisfy the tastes of many visitors of all ages, with more than 15 live performances on stage.
Many brands will also be revived by meeting and greeting their personalities who will be present throughout the festival, as well as performances by a group of celebrities and content makers from the Arab region.
The “Summer in Qatar” campaign is an extension of Qatar Tourism’s new brand platform, “Qatar More than a Feeling”, which aims to enhance Qatar’s position as the preferred destination for families in the Middle East, according to the statement.
According to official statistics, the total number of visitors to Qatar jumped by 71.7 percent in May this year on an annual basis, recording about 285,000 visitors compared to the same month last year, while it decreased by 12.1 percent on a monthly basis.
The Qatari Planning and Statistics Authority stated that the largest number of visitors came from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, with a rate of 37 percent, and visitors by air constituted the highest percentage, with 66 percent of the total number of visitors.
And with the selection of Doha as the capital of Arab tourism this year, and in the wake of hosting the FIFA World Cup last year, Qatar witnessed remarkable growth in tourism this year, as the number of visitors during the first four months reached 1.4 million, an increase of 256 percent on an annual basis, with expectations of reaching 2.5 One million visitors by the end of 2023. /end news/
