Qantas boss apologises
Vanessa Hudson, the new CEO of Qantas, issued a public apology for a series of scandals that damaged the airline’s reputation.
He admitted that the existing problems were “difficult to deal with”, and promised to make changes so that customers can trust again.
Vanessa took over at the beginning of last month, following the resignation of former CEO Alan Joyce, who had served for 15 years and was one of the company’s highest paid leaders.
“I know we have disappointed you in many ways and for that, I am sorry,” he said.
“We understand why you are frustrated and why some of you have lost trust in us,” he added.
Imran Khan’s condition in prison
The family of former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan is worried about Imran’s condition in prison, as he faces criminal charges that will likely end his political career.
In an exclusive interview with the ABC, Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, said Imran spent time in prison reading the Koran every day and would continue to fight for his freedom.
Imran, also known as one of the greatest cricketers of all time, has been in jail since August 5.
He faces 180 charges, including leaking state secrets, corruption, treason and organizing violent protests, but Imran says the charges are false and politically motivated.
Whoosh is the name of a fast car
Many residents are enthusiastic about the trial phase of the Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train (KCJB), which will be the fastest train in Southeast Asia.
The name chosen for this fast train is Whoosh, which stands for Saving Time, Optimal Operation, Reliable System.
However, a number of parties corrected the writing of the word “reliable”, which should be “reliable”.
Whoosh is produced by China, with a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
The train is planned to operate on October 1 2023, after being postponed several times since 2019.
Rupert Murdoch resigns
Billionaire Rupert Murdoch announced his resignation as head of Fox Corporation and News Corp, after a career spanning nearly 70 years.
“Throughout my professional life, I have been busy with news and ideas, and that will not change,” he wrote in a message to his employees.
“But this is the right time for me to take on a different role, realizing that we have a truly talented team.”
Lachlan Murdoch looks like he will continue his father’s leadership.
Ukraine asks the United States for help
President Joe Biden announced a new US$325 million military aid package for Ukraine, after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with him and a number of other politicians.
President Zelenskyy called on US politicians to continue supporting the war against Russia, amid skepticism from Republicans about whether Ukraine should be given aid.
This is President Zelenskyy’s second visit to the United States since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
Previously, President Biden asked Congress to provide an additional US$24 billion to fund Ukraine’s military and humanitarian needs.
