The Directorate of Health Affairs in Qalyubia, led by Dr. Khaled Al-Khatib, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, warned citizens not to look directly at the sun tomorrow, as the world awaits tomorrow, Tuesday 25/10/2022, a partial solar eclipse, which is the second and final eclipse of 2022, which will last about 4 hours and is expected to be visible in different parts of the world, including Egypt and the Middle East.

The partial solar eclipse will be in Egypt for about two hours and 16 minutes; Starting at 12:00, up to 2 and 16 minutes, and its peak will be about an hour, at which time the lunar disk will cover about 36% of the solar disk.

The Undersecretary warns citizens of the danger of looking directly at the solar disk during the period of the eclipse. As it exposes the retina to severe damage due to the entry of various radiations, (visible light, ultraviolet and infrared rays), which can cause temporary or permanent blindness.

The undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Qalyubia also warned that the use of sunglasses of all kinds, X-ray plates or other traditional methods, such as smoked glass or old magnetic discs for computers, etc., do not block all harmful rays; It’s just a small part of it.

He explained that the sun’s rays represent a serious danger, because they can penetrate the retina; And it leads to burning in the center of vision and thus the occurrence of fibrosis and damage to the eye, and the danger is that the retina of the eye does not feel pain, and therefore the person will not feel that this has happened, and the effects may not appear up to a few hours after damage.

Al-Khatib noted that all observations of astronomical phenomena have no harm to human health or daily activities on Earth. Except for the daytime phenomena related to the sun and its danger to the eyes when looking with the naked eye, noting that the management has issued several directives, including not looking directly at the sun and washing your eyes every 10 minutes when you leave home, and preferably out of the sun and stay in the shade, and when you feel burning.In Al Ain, go to the nearest health center and take care of the children.

The Undersecretary to the Ministry affirmed the readiness of all hospitals in Qalyubia, especially ophthalmology hospitals, to receive any emergency, God forbid, and the availability of all medicines and supplies and the availability of medical personnel 24 hours a day. .
