You can now fill up with renewable diesel at the Q8 gas station on the Brusselsesteenweg in Mechelen. The fuel is made by the Finnish company Neste and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 90%. The station in Mechelen is one of the first where diesel is available.

Multinational Q8 wants to become more sustainable and therefore now also offers a so-called HVO100 product for passenger cars. In concrete terms, this concerns diesel that is made from 100% renewable raw materials. To this end, the chain of gas stations is entering into a partnership with the Finnish company Neste, the world’s largest producer of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel.

“The renewable diesel can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%,” says Peter Zonneveld of Neste. “But no adjustments are needed to the existing vehicles or filling stations. The fuel is fully compatible with current diesel engines. Together with the users, we at Neste want to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 million tons annually by 2030.”

The Q8 filling station on the Brusselsesteenweg in Mechelen is one of the first places where the fuel is available. It is also for sale at gas stations in Zaventem and Rotselaar. A few more stations will be added in the coming weeks. “And our ambitions don’t stop here. If this more sustainable offering is successful, we will expand the implementation in our network,” says Sven Dochez of Q8. (svds)
