In No Time to Die it is revealed that the character Q is gay. The role is played by Ben Whishaw, the actor who goes through life with Australian composer Mark Bradshaw. Whishaw is not entirely happy with how the unveiling has turned out.
The reveal is brief and takes place when Bond (Daniel Craig) into Moneypenny (Naomi Harris) drop by Q’s apartment unannounced for help. Q is currently cooking dinner for his male date.
“I thought, ‘We’re doing this and then we don’t do anything with it?’ I remember finding that unsatisfactory,” said Whishaw about revealing that Q is gay, but his sexuality was otherwise underexposed. “For whatever reason, I didn’t discuss it with anyone on the film separately.”
Difficult to discuss
Did I discuss it on another project? It’s a very big movie. I thought long and hard about whether I should question it. In the end I didn’t. I accepted that this was what had been written. And I read the text. And it is what it is.”
And this way it gets a little more attention. Probably the necessary people have long since forgotten the scene. Because yes, Q is gay. Fine anyway. Going deeper into it in the film might just put it too much on top of it, or do you think differently? Check out the clip below.
