DGA Naval Techniques will destroy an explosive at its Tourris site on May 23, 2023 in the late morning or early afternoon.
Depending on the weather conditions, the sound effect of the detonation could spread beyond the Tourris site and be perceptible by the populations of neighboring municipalities.
The pyrotechnic testing activities carried out by the General Directorate of Armaments (DGA) take place in complete safety for people, property and the environment in accordance with the regulations. The performance of these activities generally causes audible sound effects a few hundred meters at most. This distance can nevertheless be increased up to a few kilometres, depending on the masses of explosives used and the weather conditions. The thermal or cloudy layers can in particular generate a rebound of the sound wave and propagate it beyond the site. The potentially audible sound effect in inhabited areas in no way signifies a risk for populations, property or the environment.

The Tourris site is a military site intended for pyrotechnic activities. It represents 886 hectares spread over four municipalities: La Valette du Var, Le Revest, Solliès-Ville and Solliès-Toucas.
The DGA carries out tests, appraisals and evaluations there which may require the firing of ammunition or pyrotechnic charges. These activities are essential to master the design and development of weapon systems for the benefit of the French Navy. In particular, they make it possible to ensure that ammunition can be stored, transported and used in complete safety.
