Pyrénées-Orientales: a concert to save the music school

The financial situation of the Conflent music school is critical. A collection is already underway and a major concert is organized this Saturday, November 30.

Management mentions “a possible judicial liquidation and the closure of the school, from December 2024”that’s how complicated the situation is. The Independent recently mentioned the financial difficulties encountered by the Conflent music school (created in the town of Pau Casals 18 years ago). Difficulties which do not prevent students, parents, teachers and management (entirely voluntary) from believing in better days. Marie-Christine Charlet, the kingpin of this school, remains determined: “A surge of solidarity arose spontaneously so that this school could continue to exist. Many people wanted to support it financially according to their means through‘a participatory prize pool* (helloasso.com). Many companies and businesses responded to our requests; aware that the school is an element of attractiveness for the territory.”

2,000 students in 18 years

A prize pool and therefore a concert which will be given Saturday November 30 at 7 p.m. at the Prades sports hall. “We have prepared an exceptional concert. All genres of music taught will be represented, bringing together students, teachers, ensembles and guests to discover the work of all the teachers, some of whom have been there since the creation of the school.” Entrance is free but donations are obviously welcome. Savory or sweet pies prepared by the support committee will be sold during intermission. “All this beautiful energy will transform difficulties into festivities in one evening. Come in large numbers so that the music school continues to live!” In 18 years, around 2,000 students, coming from all the communes of Conflent and sometimes beyond, have been able, under the guidance of experienced teachers, to learn to read music and play an instrument.

*Donations entitle you to an income tax reduction equal to 66% of the amount donated, up to 20% of taxable income.
