It’s no longer a surprise: global warming is increasingly rife on our planet, as the years go by. In the summer of 2021, several pictures show the difference in snow cover on the peaks of the Pyrenees, observed in the space of a century.
After the Cirque de Gavarnie …
In mid-July, the Météo Pyrénées Twitter account had already released some pretty telling pictures. A photo was taken during the summer of 1921 at the Cirque de Gavarnie (Hautes-Pyrénées). The second, in the same place, a century later. And one difference is striking: there is no more snow.
A few days later, Météo Pyrénées again published comparative images of glaciers in the Hautes-Pyrénées. That of Taillon like that of Oulettes, in Cauterets, suffered the same fate as the Cirque de Gavarnie. If it is still present in sectors, the white powder is much more discreet than a hundred years ago …
The photos brought back to the Oulettes glacier date from the summer of 1904. But the findings are the same: the snow has almost disappeared radars in the space of a century.
And if, once again, snow did appear in mid-June and early July near the Pic du Midi, it is much less present than decades ago at this time of year.
