North Korea to cut communication channels, including military, with“enemy” Korean government on Tuesday, the North Korean state agency KCNA announced after activists threatened to drop anti-Pyongyang propaganda across the border. Pyongyang “Will completely cut the link between the authorities of the North and the South”, as well as other communication channels, notably between the armed forces of the two states or the political parties in power in Seoul and Pyongyang, detailed KCNA.
The interruption is scheduled for noon Tuesday (local time, 2 a.m. in Paris), she added.
This threat comes at a time when relations between the two neighbors are at an impasse despite three summits in 2018 between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in. North Korea threatened last week to close the South Korea liaison office and take additional steps to make “suffer” Seoul. Kim Yo Jong, Kim Jong Un’s influential sister, also threatened to void the military agreement between the two countries unless Seoul prevents activists from sending anti-Pyongyang flyers.
North Korea has ended most of its contacts with the South after the failure of the summit between Kim and US President Donald Trump in 2019 in Hanoi (Vietnam), which left the North Korean nuclear negotiations to the point of death. It was their second summit.
