An agreement signed between the UNITED STATESthe South Korea and the Japan is viewed with suspicion by the North Korea. The heads of state of the three countries had met on the sidelines of a NATO summit last week. During this interview, Joe Biden, Yoon Suk-yeol et Fumio Kushida agreed that the nuclear and missile programs of Pyongyang pose great threats to the Korean peninsula, Asia and the rest of the world. Following this meeting, North Korea reacted by considering that the agreement signed between the three countries is part of an American project aimed at creating a military alliance similar to NATO.
“An excuse to achieve military supremacy”
In an interview with North Korea’s KCNA news agency, the diplomacy spokesperson said: “Reality clearly shows that the real purpose of the United States in spreading the rumor of a ‘North Korean threat’ is to provide an excuse to achieve military supremacy over the Asia-Pacific region.”. He went on to say that such a situation leads his country to strengthen its security arrangements in order to deal with “worsening of the security environment”.
As a reminder, Pyongyang’s remarks come several weeks after Washington and Seoul fired eight ballistic missiles, following missile fire from North Korea. According to information from the South Korean military, the projectiles hit targets located in the East Sea. The missiles were launched within ten minutes, following a joint military exercise between the two countries. According to the details of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, it is a surface-to-surface missile of the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS).
