Proposals from the SP (removing the deductible completely) and from GroenLinks-PvdA (reducing it by one hundred euros to 285 euros) did not achieve a majority in the House of Representatives. The declared opponent of the deductible, the PVV, among others, voted against the motions. As a result, the deductible for basic insurance remains at 385 euros.

Geert Wilders’ party has been advocating the abolition of the deductible for years and has campaigned vigorously on it.

In addition to the PVV, VVD, NSC and BBB also voted against scrapping or reducing the deductible for health insurance. These four parties are negotiating a new cabinet and do not want to agree to major expenditure at this stage.

PVV MP Fleur Agema said last week that her party wants to abolish the deductible, but that she wants to arrange this during the formation. VVD and NSC do not want to abolish the deductible. This is estimated to cost around six billion euros per year.

Also no support for dental check-ups in the basic package

The motion by GroenLinks-PvdA and SP to include dental check-ups in the basic package also received insufficient support, as it became apparent after the votes on Tuesday afternoon.

The two left-wing parties want everyone to be able to go to the dentist once a year for a check-up, without having to meet their deductible. ANP
