If the PvdA and GroenLinks (GL) merge in the House of Representatives in the next elections, former PvdA party chairman Hans Spekman will vote for Marjolein Moorman or Kim Putters as party leader. He tells that on the radio program Sven op 1.
Members of PvdA and GL are voting today on whether the left-wing parties should merge in the House of Representatives. So far, the majority seems to be in favour. In that case, a new leader must also come. Who should take on this task? “Marjolein Moorman could do that very well. Or Kim Putters, I’ve always had a soft spot for that,” says Spekman.
‘Fear that everything has been invented’
However, Spekman doubts whether there will be a party leader at all. “I’m afraid it’s all figured out how it goes.”

Spekman himself is not in favor of a merger. “I would really hate it if red became more and more green, instead of the other way around.” So GL leader Jesse Klaver who holds sway on behalf of the merger party, the PvdA prominent would rather not have that. “I prefer that all members choose. I don’t see that happening, that members of GroenLinks and PvdA elect a common party leader.”

Spekman expects that there are enough supporters for the merger. “I hope that there will be room on the list for people who are 100 percent red and people who are 100 percent green.”

By this, Spekman means that social security must remain high on the agenda. “I hope that the list and list stretcher do not become a mix of all red-green types, but that you do have the versatility. Then you have 100 percent red and 100 percent green among the MPs.”
