The Food and Veterinary Service (PVD) has recalled karkade petal tea of Egyptian and Nigerian origin from the market, as it was found to have exceeded the permitted level of pyrrolizidine alkaloids, according to the information published by the service.
PVD discovered that the permitted level of pyrrolizidine alkaloids was exceeded during laboratory control of the product.
Therefore, the distribution of karkade petal tea of Egyptian and Nigerian origin in 100-gram packages with batch number “L006” which has a proposed expiration date of December 2025 has been suspended and withdrawn from trade.
PVD has notified the findings in the Rapid Alert System of the European Commission (EC).
PVD is a state administrative center under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, which carries out state supervision and control of food distribution and the veterinary medicine industry.
