Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party has acquired its own private army, dubbed Española, which consists mostly of soccer ultras.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, Putin’s private army includes ultranationalists, including neo-Nazis, as well as civilians from poor regions of the Russian Federation. Part of the faction has accumulated combat experience in the battles in Donbass.
More news from Ukraine
Since 2023, PMC Española is already directly subordinate to members of Putin’s party. The group has claimed status as a private military company and has launched a recruitment campaign, with funding coming from United Russia.
Recruitment centers have also been established in the occupied Ukrainian territories. The volunteers are promised 2,400 dollars a month for direct participation in the military operations in Ukraine. The contract is for at least half a year.
Insurance is an additional incentive: they promise fighters up to $23,000 in case of severe trauma at the front. In the event of death, their next of kin will be paid nearly $40,000.
However, the financial incentives are just dust in the eyes. For many of the “Espanyola” fighters, the ticket to the Ukrainian front is a one-way ticket. In the meat grinder of the front, hundreds of Russians die every day, and for Putin, the lives of his own soldiers do not matter as long as he achieves his strategic goals.
Putin’s “United Russia” party has created its own private army and started recruiting. It is called the Espanola PMC, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reported.
