Russia considers unacceptable even the idea of starting a war with Ukraine, said at a briefing Alexei Zaitsev, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, quoted by TASS.
“We have repeatedly stated that our country is not preparing to attack anyone. We consider unacceptable even the idea of war between our peoples, “he said.
Zaitsev explained that Russia counts on NATO countries to refrain from interfering in Ukraine’s internal affairs, BTA reported.
“We hope that NATO countries will stop escalating the conflict in eastern Ukraine, will refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of this country, which will allow the negotiators in Ukraine to resolve their differences in direct dialogue with each other,” he said. of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
In connection with the statement of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that it is possible to increase the presence of troops on the pact on its eastern flank, Zaitsev commented that this creates an unfavorable situation for the negotiations on security guarantees. Such statements “confirm that it has become common practice for the Alliance to strengthen its negotiating position using military capabilities,” the spokesman said.
Zaitsev reiterated Moscow’s request to withdraw NATO forces from Eastern Europe, which he said would reduce military tensions in Europe.
“It is clear that military tensions in Europe will be reduced if NATO withdraws its forces from Eastern European countries. So we call for this to be one of the key points in our proposals to NATO for security guarantees, “he said.
